On a mission to bring you the best beauty advice we could find, we sought out expert Catherine B. Roy, public relations and social media coordinator for THEFACESHOP to answer all of your prom-day beauty questions.

Vervegirl: Teens want to look their best on prom night, so what are some tips to make sure their skin is ready?

Catherine B. Roy (CBR): The most important thing is to make sure your skin is properly cleansed and hydrated. The use of a good, non-oily cleansing foam, water or milk is highly recommended. In addition to the usual skincare routine, we also suggest using a hydrating mask sheet a couple of hours before the event. This allows the skin to be more supple and to have a nice glow while preventing it from absorbing any makeup. Include oil-blotting papers in your purse or dress pockets to keep skin shine-free all night long.

VG: What kind of skincare routine should teens be doing in the weeks leading up to prom?

CBR: First, you have to make sure your skin is well hydrated. Drink a lot of water, and get a healthy dose of sleep. You can even use a night cream to hydrate your skin while you get your beauty sleep. Once or twice a week, exfoliate your skin to remove dead skin cells and then give a boost of hydration to your skin with face mask sheets. Those weeks leading up to prom are also the perfect time to target specific issues like acne or dull skin with the help of specific facial care or even spa treatments.

VG: Most girls will do their own makeup, so do you have any tips to give them that professional look at home?

CBR: First you need the right tools – some brushes, good accessories and quality products. To begin, use a primer. You can either choose a simple primer, or if your skin is dry, a moisturizing one. Then, complete your base with a waterproof BB or CC cream, so that it won’t sweat off. Next, choose if you want to put the accent on your eyes, or on your lips. If you choose to focus on your eye, opt for natural eyelashes and bold eye shadow shades for a professional look. If you prefer to focus on your lips, use a bright colour that will stay all night long, like the THEFACESHOP Ink Lipquid. Don’t forget the eyebrows! Eyebrows are often forgotten, and they are the key to the perfect look. Define them with an eyebrow pencil and fill them with powder, but make sure to choose the right shade for you. Finally, whatever you do, make sure it looks fresh and that it’s comfortable!

VG: After a night of sweating and heavy makeup, what are some tips you have for teens to help cleanse their skin?

CBR: Start by using a good makeup remover for eyes and lips (like the Chia seed Fresh lip and eye makeup remover, or the Mango Seed Lip&Eye Makeup Remover) and follow up with a good cleansing foam. You can also exfoliate the day after to make sure your skin is deeply cleansed and fresh.
