Find the best prom dress for your shape

Women come in all shapes and sizes, so shouldn’t prom dresses too? From tall to petite, and all the beautiful bodies in between, the perfect dress is out there.

Busty: If you have a larger bust with narrow hips, finding a dress that doesn’t draw attention can be tough. Keep your dress long to balance out your upper body with the lower. Try dresses with v-shaped necklines to elongate your neck and décolletage.

Apple: If you carry most of your weight in your middle section, avoid dresses with a hem that hits directly in your middle. Instead, choose a dress with an empire waist and an A-line silhouette or full skirt to draw the focus upwards.

Slim: If you have a thin frame throughout, you are going to want to accentuate your lean physique while adding some curves. Try dresses with an empire waist or asymmetric neckline to add curves and dimension. For a fashionable twist, add a belt or even a slit.

Hourglass: For girls with proportionate bust and hips, flaunt your hourglass shape with a form-fitted silhouette, V-shape neckline and accentuated waistlines. With a curvy body shape, avoid too many embellishments on top or a boat neckline.

Pear: With wider hips and a smaller bust, you will want to accentuate your waist and curves while staying away from mermaid gowns. For necklines, look for halter or asymmetrical, and for skirts, try something fitted to show off your curves or go for an A-line.

Petite: If you are shorter than 5’3”, look for dresses with V-necklines, vertical prints and pleating to elongate your silhouette. Floor length gowns can appear overwhelming on your petite frame, so avoid ball gowns or have your dress hemmed to make sure it isn’t too long.

Tall: For a tall figure, steer clear of vertical pleats and prints that could make you look taller than you are. Short dresses are a great solution.

Plus size: If you are plus size, look for dresses with necklines such as a sweetheart, or V-neckline and find a dress that cinches below the bust, while the rest of the dress has a flattering volume. Dresses with horizontal embellishments or pleats may not be the most flattering option.
